You never know what a person is going through. The strongest looking people on the outside might be the most overwhelmed. The happiest person may be the most drained. So, before you assume that a person has it all figured out and they can’t possibly be hurting think again and be kind.

Not everyone who’s hurting has someone to lean on. Not everyone who seems mature has the choice to let loose. Even though talking and taking care of your mental health is no longer taboo it isn’t always easy to open up and take the first step. So, smile at everyone you never know who needs it. Check up on your friends and let them know you care. Because the little things matter. 💜💙🤍

As someone who has grown up in the age of technology and with social media as a lifeline to the outside world, there are times when my mental health becomes compromised. We've all experienced this at one point or another. And who can blame us. Especially, when social media presents a window into a land of filters, perfect curves, and luxurious lifestyles.
.
Though in recent years, more and more people are trying to portray more realism its still not seen as often as we'd like. Because like all things, the internet, social media, and technology are double edged swords that can bring just as much harm as it can good. Which is why, we have to learn to unplug from time to time. To consciously stop thinking about whether or not our feed is on point or if our last post will get so and so amount of likes or whatever.

At the end of the day, our mental health should be our main priority. Because what's the point of having a beautiful outward appearance if we can't stand to be alone with our thoughts. Unlearning the mentality of if you don't snap it, it didn't happen is hard. But it's something that I have become grateful for letting go. Cause of it, I am happier and no longer feel the need to attain social media level of perfection. Rather, I just strive to be the best I can be for me.

We've been conditioned to label ourselves one thing or another. As if our whole identity can really be summed up to just one thing. As though as humans we aren't capable of being multi-faceted and complex. The funny thing is society has made us think that owning certain items or feeling certain emotions means that we can automatically be categorized and put into a box. ⁠
.⁠
Teenagehood is hard. Adulting is hard. Having people who constantly assume that they have you figured out especially when you don't even have yourself figured out just makes things harder. We are constantly evolving. Who we were a year ago isn't the same person we are today. So, why is it that we constantly try to limit ourselves with labels. We are who we are, and that is one thing no one can ever take away from us.⁠

Here's my truth about my identity. I am a Muslim Teenage Girl who loves coffee. I'm supposedly and ENTJ according to every personality test I've taken. But, sometimes human interaction drains me. I'm 18 years old and I still re-watch the Twilight Saga and still bug my mom to make appointments for me. I get really bad stage fright but I'm a public speaker - and a good one too. We are all paradoxical in one way or the other. So, stop limiting yourself by sticking to one label.⁠

If there's one thing that quarantine has taught me

If there's one thing that quarantine has taught me it's this, if you aren't working on your goals now it means that it was never time that you lacked it was discipline. Why? Because prior to quarantine even I was guilty of constantly putting off my goals because of one reason or another. Oh, I have school. Oh, I'm tired I'll start tomorrow. Oh, this. Oh that. But, quarantine made me realize that excuses will always be there if you spend your time constantly looking for one.
.
No one can blame you for not changing or growing. Change is scary and growth is hard. So, why keep moving forward right 🤷‍♀️ Here's why. If you don't at least try to grow you will always be left wondering about the what ifs and the potential of something. Plus, we all need change every once in a while. It keeps things interesting. It allows you to see what you're really made out of. But, you will never find the answers to your questions if you don't start. So, if you're seeing this post, take it as a sign, it's time for a change!!

Society has a way of contradicting itself especially when it comes to the youth. You see we are constantly told that we are the future yet we our abilities and judgement are constantly being doubted. I've seen and experienced this one too many times occurring to me and my peers. And it is absolutely infuriating. Why? Because age doesn't determine ones capabilities for greatness. Mindset and drive do. ⁠
.⁠
Expecting the youth to act and behave like adults but treating them like children is counterproductive. All it does is hold the youth back from reaching their true potential. Being an adult or being 18 doesn't magically transform you into a perfect human being with all the answers. The youth are POWERFUL human beings. You being unaware of what they've accomplished and what they're capable of isn't a reason to doubt them. ⁠

There are adults who restart their lives when their 30 because they come to realize that they finally know what they want. Who's to say that the youth can't know what they want just cause their young? ⁠

If there is one thing that I've learned about my current university journey it's that no one truly knows what they're doing. Everyone is simply doing their best to accomplish what they need to. You see, university is filled with so many people all from different walks of life and with numerous interests. But, the one thing we all have in common, we are ALL works in progress. We have our strengths yes, but at the end of the day we're all just striving to make it. ⁠
.⁠
In life, I've found its the same way. There are things in which we excel at effortlessly. But, there are also things in which we struggle with. That's why it is so important that we learn not to compare our day one with someone else's day one. Because we are all on different journeys and are striving towards different things. And as someone who has just legally began her adulting journey, I want to let my fellow youth know that you are not required to have your life figured out. Cause you know what, no one truly does. And it's perfectly okay.⁠

Everyone's journey is complicated and filled with twists and turns. When we go to university we are expected to know exactly what we want and to follow through. This is rarely the case. Some people graduate with a degree and never use it. Others change their minds down the road. So, don't feel bad when you hit bumps in the road or when you're lost. Instead embrace it and grow from those moments. ⁠

QOTD: What's one thing that you've struggled with that you pushed yourself to finish? For me, my micro economics course absolutely killed me but I forced myself to push through for the sake of my goals. ⁠

Letting go of the past isn't always the easiest thing. Maybe, it's because we want to have something to blame for our current issues. Or maybe because the past represented everything you've ever known and wanted. But, here's the thing letting go doesn't mean we must forget. On the contrary, letting go means that you have reached a point where you no longer let the past hold you down, rather you now use it to keep you going and thriving. ⁠
.⁠
In life change is constant. I've yet to see this truth be disproved. And in life, there will be so much that we will experience and go through. Everything that we now experience will eventually be something that we will one day refer to with "do you remember when..." because as much as we want to hold on to things, we KNOW that very few things truly remain. Be it moments, friends, love, and even life. ⁠

But don't worry because though things are no longer a part of your present it doesn't mean that they are no longer a part of you. Everything and everyone, present or not will ALWAYS be a part of you. Because everything that we've been through and everyone we've come across has shaped us into who we are today. So, if you think about it you can never fully let thing go. You can only let things stop holding you back.⁠

QOTD: What's something in your past that you often think about that has helped shaped the you today? For me, the events that led to me and one of my childhood best friends to stop being friends because it helped show me who really had my back when things hit the fan. ⁠
